Machine learning and high-dimensional methods online course

Machine learning and high-dimensional methods online course

Staburo Academy online course “Machine learning and high-dimensional methods”

Our course “Machine learning and high-dimensional methods” will be a 2-day course from 07 to 08 June 2021!

In the digital era where the collection of data is permanently increasing and phrases like “data mining” and “big data” are omnipresent, knowing how to turn the data into useful information is an essential skill. Therefore, basic knowledge of the most state-of-the-art machine learning techniques is an important instrument, not only for the ability to perform the appropriate statistical analyses in various settings, but also for a better understanding and interpreting of study results.

With this course you will get an insight into a variety of statistical methods for high-dimensional data ranging from parametric methods like PCA and LASSO to non-parametric machine learning methods like Random Forests, Boosting, SVMs and Neural Networks. In addition, these methods will be illustrated by real data applications in R.

The course will be held in English and the detailed agenda will be sent out a few days before the start of the course. You find more details and how to register here!

New Staburo office

New Staburo office

Staburo moves to new Munich office

We took the opportunity to move to a bigger office space recently. The move was – due to home-office as current preferred way of working – logistically easier to perform than expected. We now rent a much bigger space than before and thanks to the top floor location, it has a very light and airy feel! We are very happy to stay in the same office building in Munich-Giesing, with its great cafeteria, summer terraces and super-friendly staff! We are sure that this will be very soon the perfect place to communicate, collaborate and grow together – for our current 45-people team, our clients and the excellent colleagues and clients that will join us in the future!

Staburo Academy online course “Advanced statistical methods”

Our course “Advanced statistical methods” will be a 2-day course from 08 to 09 April 2021!

The course, which takes place online, is about giving you an insight into a variety of advanced statistical methods ranging from generalized regression models like multivariable regression, logistic regression or mixed models to survival analysis and meta-analysis.

The course is mainly addressed (but not restricted) to professionals who are interested in data science (e.g. Statisticians, Statistical Programmers, Data Managers, Data Scientists) and who want to learn more about advanced statistical methods. Very basic knowledge of statistics and R programming would be beneficial but is not mandatory.

The course will be held in English and the detailed agenda will be sent out a few days before the start of the course. You find more details and how to register here!

Staburo @ PSI Medical Stats Careers Event 2021

Staburo’s Managing Director Dr. Hannes Buchner took part in the online panel discussion on 3 March 2021 that was the start of the PSI Medical Stats Careers Event 2021.

This event was aimed at students with an interest in the field of Medical Statistics, for example within pharmaceuticals, healthcare and/or medical research.

There was also be a virtual Career fair after the panel discussion, where students could book individual meetings with Staburo’s Managing Director Roland Stieger, and discuss job opportunities at our company.

Check out more information on the PSI website. We thank the PSI team for organizing this event during special times!

Three Staburo presentations at the Biometric Colloquium Conference in March 2021

Three presentations by Staburo members have been accepted at the Biometric Colloquium “Scenes from Biostatistics” virtual conference of the German Region of the International Biometric Society (IBS-DR) that will take place from March 14 to 17, 2021 (https://www.biometrisches-kolloquium2021.de/en/startseite-english/).
Laura Schlieker will present “Precision medicine in action – the FIRE3 NGS study”, which is co-authored with Nicole Krämer (MorphoSys), Volker Heinemann (University Hospital, University of Munich and DKTK), Arndt Stahler (DKFZ), and Sebastian Stintzing (DKTK and DKFZ).
Gabriele Bleckert’s presentation will be “Tumour-growth models improve progression-free survival estimation in the presence of high censoring-rates”, on which she has worked with Hannes Buchner (Staburo).
Hannes Buchner’s talk is titled “Evaluation of event rate differences using stratified Kaplan-Meier difference estimates with Mantel-Haenszel weights” and is based on joined work with Stephan Bischofberger (Staburo) and Rainer-Georg Goeldner (Boehringer-Ingelheim).
