Staburo Walk & Run Team Event 2024

Thrilled to celebrate our recent Staburo GmbH team event, which kicked off with a warm-up session in a perfect weather, setting the tone for the exciting activities ahead. Runners tackled a 6 km route, while walkers enjoyed a comfortable 3 km stroll along the Isar in the southern part of Munich. This was followed by a company-themed quiz, that sparked some friendly competition and laughter. To conclude the day, we adjourned to a nearby restaurant, providing an opportunity for further networking and relaxation.

A huge thanks to all participants for making it a memorable day! Looking forward to more exciting team moments together!

Staburo at the 70th Biometric Colloquium in Lübeck

With the slogan “Navigating the Sea of Data: Biometrics Guides the Way”, the 70th Biometric Colloquium took place at the University of Lübeck from February 28 – March 01, 2024.

While various topics were presented, Maria Stark, Senior Data Scientist at Staburo GmbH, delved into practical aspects of planning and analyzing diagnostic studies in the “Statistics in Practice” invited session.

The talk was a joint work together with her former colleagues of Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf. They covered several aspects such as the choice of a study design, definition of an estimand, calculation of the sample size and the analysis and report of the study results.

The conference was a successful event, featuring three keynote presentations on statistical methods in high-dimensional genetic data, insights in the work at the European Medicines Agency and causal inference.

This memorable experience for our colleague, Maria Stark, was concluded with a networking dinner hosted at the venue of the traditional restaurant “Schiffergesellschaft,” followed by a guided city tour of Lübeck.

Staburo @ 9th PharmTox Summit Munich

Staburo @ 9th PharmTox Summit Munich

Staburo at the 9th Pharm-Tox Summit in Munich

Imagine you are tasked with designing a phase II dose finding study to come up with a suitable dose for phase III. To accomplish this, the invited talk by Gabriele Bleckert from Staburo GmbH at the 9th German Pharm-Tox Summit in Munich on 14 March 2024 within the AGAH session gave good directions.

Ten years ago, the Multiple Comparison Procedure and Modelling (MCP-Mod) Methodology was qualified by regulators as an efficient statistical methodology for model-based design and analysis of phase II dose finding studies under model uncertainty.

The talk showcased two clinical trials in the indication Schizophrenia and Diabetes where MCP-Mod has been implemented successfully. MCP-Mod was motivated and key features of the methodology were explained with focus on MCP-Mod at analysis stage. Planning of MCP-Mod trials was elaborated in the subsequent talk by Sebastian Bossert from Boehringer Ingelheim.

Many thanks to Ruwen Böhm and Barbara Schug from SocraTec who chaired the AGAH (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Angewandte Humanpharmakologie e. V.) session for inviting us to share our insights on MCP-Mod. Special thanks to Sebastian Bossert for the illuminating exchange on MCP-Mod.

Team get togethers February

Team get togethers February

Februar team get togethers

February is already over, and we look back on some smaller, but great and fun team get togethers in our office. As we continue to grow, it is always important that we create time and opportunities to get to know each other and exchange ideas.

Beginning of the months we celebrated the carnival season with fresh doughnuts (German: Krapfen) in the office and enjoyed a relaxed coffee break together.

A few weeks later this was followed by one of our monthly office days plus another movie night for all colleagues. On this day also a lot of our remote colleagues travelled to our office in Munich, and we had the chance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of our colleagues.

As we have ‘Big Lebowski’ fans in our team, this film was on the programme and was accompanied by a presentation about the most important characters in the run-up to the film. We spent an entertaining und funny evening together including pizza and drinks.

We always look forward to meeting our colleagues in our office – either for business meetings or for smaller after work events. Thanks for your great participation.

Staburo is a member of BVMA

We haven’t announced it, but since mid of 2023, Staburo is a very proud member of the BVMA (Bundesverband Medizinischer Auftragsinstitute). We are very happy to be one of the 50 member companies and to join this diverse and highly qualified network. We look forward to exciting exchanges, to events and options to share our expertise and to learn from each other.

As an example, which topics are presented at BVMA events, we wrote a short summary about the last symposium:

For the first time as full member, Staburo Head of Quality Dr. Luciana Husfeld and Managing Directors Dr. Josef Höfler and Roland Stieger took part in the BVMA symposium on 24 November 2023, at the Holiday Inn City Centre Hotel in Munich. This year it was the 31. BVMA symposium and the get-together took place the evening before at the venue.

This year’s topic was: “Rethinking clinical research: From patients to AI”. The symposium presentations and discussions covered the areas of regulatory, experiences with CTR/CTIS and as well patient participation and AI applications within clinical research.

We were very happy to learn more about current changes in regulations and updates in the CRO market – thank you for the excellent networking sessions! Congratulations to the BVMA for the organization of this great event and thank you for the invitation! We are already looking forward to next BVMA symposium on 22nd of November 2024.

The BVMA represents the interests of its German CRO members. BVMA members maintain a lively exchange of information on topics that important to the German CRO industry, e.g. on questions of liability and insurance, education and training, quality requirements and trends in the pharmaceutical and CRO industry.

Health @ Staburo

Health @ Staburo

Health @ Staburo

The topic health is one of the most important of Staburo with our core purpose to deliver excellent data science to improve and save lives. In addition, this is also a very important concern for our company and our team members. A great work environment is key for us at Staburo – this also includes physical and mental health conditions of our employees.

In line with that our Managing Director, Josef Höfler, successfully completed the training program: Healthy Leadership – Strengthen leadership and mental health at TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning in autumn 2023.

Target group for this training program is as follows: Managers, Executives, HR managers, or anyone interested in the topic of mental health at work. The comprehensive program consists of contents such as evidence-based and field-tested methods, realistic role plays, online learning elements, personal video feedback, and coaching.

Over a total of 6 days, the following topics were dealt with, deepened, and discussed:

  • Introduction to mental health
  • Employee appraisal with mental health focus
  • (Self-) management
  • Special case of burnout and risk assessment

Josef Höfler stated: “The training program on Healthy Leadership provided me with valuable insights and practical tools to support our team members and create a positive work environment. We are committed to continuously integrating these learnings into our company culture and practices.”

Beyond that, an anonymous survey on (mental) well-being and health including a risk assessment was conducted at Staburo in summer 2023. The average results were in our eyes very good, nevertheless there are always areas with room for improvement and things we would like to address more to support a healthy work environment for all of us at Staburo.

To give this topic more weight internally, the first Staburo health day took place in October 2023. The presentations and activities during this day focused on topics such as: Stress reduction, ergonomics at work, eye check-ups, active breaks, and nutritional aspects. It was a successful kick-off, but of course the topic of (mental) health of our employees is not completed and will be continuously on our agenda.
