Laura Schlieker

We are proud to announce that on November 7th, 2024, our director of biostatistics in the focus area biomarkers, Laura Schlieker delivered gave an insightful presentation on “Deep Learning in Image Analysis” at the PSI/EFSPI Biomarkers Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Machine Learning (ML) substream. This prestigious subgroup brings together around 20 experienced statisticians and data scientists from leading pharma companies and the healthcare sector to explore recent advancements in biomarkers research and in particular in the field of machine learning.

In the presentation, our colleague highlighted the rapidly growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in healthcare. Key topics included:

  • An Introduction to Deep Learning for image analysis, essential for tasks like image classification, segmentation, and object detection.
  • A deep dive into neural networks, focusing on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and their applications in healthcare.
  • A balanced discussion on the benefits and challenges of implementing deep learning for complex image analysis in a healthcare setting.
  • This event also offered a valuable forum for exchanging knowledge and experiences with industry experts, underscoring our commitment to pioneering innovative approaches in AI and advancing biomarkers research across sectors.
